Report Definition:
The ALL CPS & CWS REFERRALS report provides the total number of Child Abuse and Neglect Reports and Child Welfare Services (CWS) Referrals assigned to Child Protection and Permanency (CP&P) local offices and the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit (IAIU).
Data Portal Functionality:
The Data Portal allows users to select additional variables to gain further insight into the selected report. In addition, each variable can be further filtered to provide a subset of data within the variable. Data are provided as a table or, when available, a graph.
Variable Definitions:
- County: The State of New Jersey is administratively divided into twenty-one counties. The county for this report is based on the county of the local field office responsible for the investigation/assessment. The twenty-one (21) counties in New Jersey are: Atlantic, Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Essex, Gloucester, Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Salem, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties. The category of "Other" is added to the list and includes reports where a county of assignment could not be determined at the time of the data extract.
- Year: Year represents data for the calendar year.
- Referral Type: A categorical description of the referral type. Referral types are limited to:
- Child Abuse/Neglect Reports
- CWS Referrals (Child Welfare Services)
- Reporter: A categorical description of the individual who reported the incident to the State Central Registry (New Jersey's Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline). Reporter types are:
- Anonymous
- Child (Self)
- Daycare/Babysitter
- Government Agency
- Healthcare Provider
- Law Enforcement
- Parent
- Relative/Friend/Neighbor
- School Staff
- CP&P
- Court/Legal
- Community Group/Individual
- Facility Staff (including Correctional Facility)
- Other
- Response Priority: Timeliness of response based on priority level. Response priorities are:
- Immediate
- Within 24 Hours
- Within 72 Hours
- Within 5 Work Days
